A full-time household consumes electricity throughout the year. A holiday home may be quiet for months and then run air conditioning, pool equipment and several appliances during summer visits.
Sizing the array from the busiest electricity bill alone can produce more surplus than the property can use during the rest of the year. Monthly bills and any interval data give a more useful picture than a single annual total.
Identify the permanent base load
Internet equipment, security systems, gates, refrigeration and pool filtration may continue to use electricity while the villa is empty. These loads are often a better starting point for the year-round demand than the consumption recorded during a busy visit.
Timers and controls should also be reviewed. Moving pool filtration into the main solar-production hours can increase direct use without adding storage.
Summer cooling can align well with solar generation
Air-conditioning demand is usually greatest during bright summer weather, so part of it can be supplied directly while the panels are producing. The result depends on the size of the array, the efficiency of the cooling equipment and what else is running at the same time.
A design should not assume that every air-conditioning unit, the pool pump and all kitchen loads can run from solar simultaneously. Their combined demand still matters.
A battery is not automatically the answer
Storage can carry daytime surplus into the evening and may support agreed circuits during an outage. In a property that stands empty for long periods, a large battery may have limited work to do outside occupied weeks.
Panels alone, load shifting and a system with physical storage should be compared separately. Export compensation or a virtual-battery tariff may also affect the figures, although supplier terms can change.
Remote monitoring matters more in a second home
Connected monitoring lets an owner see production, household demand, grid use and battery activity from outside Spain when communications are available. It can reveal an unexpected base load or a fall in generation between visits.
The handover should explain normal readings and who to contact if the system reports a fault. Remote data is most useful when someone remains responsible for interpreting and supporting it.
